A phobia is an intense and unreasonable fear that leads you to avoid things. Usually what you are afraid of isn't always scary to other people. People with phobias can be afraid of things like enclosed spaces, crowds, spiders, or the sight of blood. Others are upset by social situations like meeting new people or shaming themselves out in public. There are also phobias that relate to certain situations or things like heights, airplanes, or speaking in public. People with phobias often experience panic attacks and they will go out of their way to avoid situations where they may come across whatever it is that freaks them out. People with phobias usually know that their fear is irrational but knowing this doesn't make any difference, they are still terrified by it. Fortunately you can get help to get over phobias (hit here for the help page for information about who you can see).
