Te Whare Puawai O Te Tangata Trust is a Kaupapa Maori service that covers North Taranaki. They provide a number of different services. The one that relates most to youth is the service they offer for young people who may be experiencing psychosis for the first time.

Shayne Tuheke is their "first time psychosis worker" or "Kai Wawao Ahootea Hauora". He helps young people and their whanau to understand psychosis and teaches them ways to look after themselves so that they can either get over it or learn ways to manage it better. Because Te Whare Puawai is a Kaupapa Maori service Shayne generally sees young people who are Maori, or who want a Maori cultural approach to the help they receive.

Contacts

Shayne can be contacted between 8:30am and 5pm, weekdays on: (06) 759 4300 or on his mobile phone: 025 273 3907. His office is located at the old Barrett Hospital.
